Researchers conducting a field study in a remote cave system in British Columbia have uncovered what appears to be a series of ancient runes, possibly containing parts of the Lord’s Prayer.

The team, led by Dr. Hannah Tveit from the University of Oslo, identified the etchings along a limestone wall. Preliminary analysis suggests that the runes bear a strong resemblance to early Norse or Germanic script, and parts of the inscription align with familiar lines from Christian scripture.

“This type of crossover between cultural symbols is rare but not unheard of,” said Dr. Tveit. “We’re carefully examining the context to better understand the origins and intent of the markings.”

Carbon dating of materials found nearby suggests the inscriptions could date back to between the 11th and 13th centuries. This has prompted renewed interest in the possibility of early Norse presence in North America, beyond previously known sites.
