Rev. Botrus Mansour Becomes First Arab Christian to Lead World Evangelical Alliance
By Church News
Rev. Botrus Mansour, a Palestinian Christian from Nazareth, has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), becoming the first Arab Christian to lead the influential global body.
The announcement was made during the WEA General Assembly held in Seoul, South Korea, where over 850 delegates from 124 countries and 4,000 Korean church leaders gathered for the weeklong event. The WEA represents more than 600 million evangelicals across 161 nations, making it one of the largest global Christian networks.
In his inaugural address, Rev. Botrus Mansour described the moment as “profound,” reflecting on the significance of his appointment. “A Palestinian Christian from Israel has been asked to serve as secretary general. Especially now, with a ceasefire in our region, I give tribute to my people and my country,” he said.
