RCCG, MFM, and Deeper Life Open Camps for Flood Victims

By MO

RCCG, MFM, and Deeper Life, in conjunction with the Ogun State Government, have extended a compassionate hand to residents displaced by the ongoing coastal floods wreaking havoc in the state.

The government have opened the campgrounds of notable religious organisations, including the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, and the Deeper Christian Life Bible Ministry, to provide refuge to those affected.

Mr Oladimeji Oresanya, the Commissioner of Environment in the state, has emphasised the readiness of the emergency response teams and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist residents willing to leave the affected areas. The state’s swift response aims to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by the devastating floods.

The coastal floods, attributed to factors such as rising sea levels, continuous rainfall, and water release from the Oyan dam, have resulted in the displacement of numerous residents. Over 100 landlords have been compelled to abandon their homes to escape the severe flooding. The situation has escalated to the point where critical infrastructure, including the Warewa Road, has been compromised.

Residents like Mr. Paschal Uchendu, a landlord in the area, described this year’s flooding as the most severe they have ever witnessed. He highlighted the situation’s urgency, revealing that many residents had already evacuated their homes to seek safer ground. As more and more families face displacement, the need for immediate intervention and support becomes increasingly apparent.

In a concurrent development, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, has sought to alleviate the concerns of residents living along the Ogun-Osun river bank. With reports of flooding in these areas, the commissioner reassured the community of Lagos State’s preparedness to manage the situation effectively.

Mr Wahab, addressing journalists during a press briefing, emphasised the importance of homeowners in flood-prone areas relocating to higher ground for their safety. This proactive measure demonstrates the state’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and security of its residents.

The government’s swift response and the support offered by the religious organisations exemplify the collective effort to address the current flood crisis. As the situation continues to evolve, these initiatives provide hope for those affected and proof of the resilience and unity of the communities impacted by these natural disasters.
