The “Jesus Revolution” film will hit theatres in February 2023.
This film was inspired by a true movement that led to the greatest spiritual awakening in American history in the 1960s and 1970s.
Directing this riveting film is Filmmaker Jon Erwin. The film, based on Pastor Greg Laurie’s book, Jesus Revolution, features “the true story of the national spiritual awakening in the early 1970s and its origins within a community of teenage hippies in Southern California. It was just a powerful move of God that was undeniable. It shaped culture and it shaped America. We haven’t experienced anything like it.” Erwin stated.
Some of the star-studded casts of this faith-based movie are; Devon Franklin, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Jonathan Roumie, Joel Courtney, Anna Grace Barlow, Kelsey Grammer, Ally Ioannides, Julia Campbell, Nic Bishop and Jolie Jenkins.
The Jesus Revolution film tells the story of a young man, Greg Laurie who is searching for truth but looking in all the wrong places. He eventually meets Lonnie Frisbee, who is a hippie street preacher played by Jonathan Roumie. The duo team up with another Pastor; Chuck Smith and an unexpected revival and spiritual awakening is ignited.
Jonathan Roumie sees the film as “a brief deep dive into the greatest and the biggest and most recent spiritual revival in this country…took place in the 1970s and uh kicked off a wave of uh you know people that were passionate about Jesus, disenfranchised youth, uh needing… You know hope, needing redemption…The movement started in Southern California and happened in this little community at a place called Calvary Chapel Church. And this hippie preacher named Lonnie Frisbee, who I play, kind of met with this Pastor named Chuck Smith and all of a sudden fire was ignited and millions of hippies were saying because of it, you know…”
Anna Grace Barlow, one of the casts of the film, believes “It’s a story of finding yourself, finding your faith, finding your way. I just think it is going to be so uplifting.”
While Devon Franklin wants the Audience to “get a strong message of love and hope.”
Franklin was “excited and nervous” when he was approached to act. But once he went through the script he wanted to be “part of bringing this powerful true story to the screen.”
The Jesus Revolution is almost here! And Greg Laurie encourages people to pray for the cast and crew that “they will either come closer to Jesus or some might even meet him for the first time!”
He went further to say on his Instagram page, “Our prayer is that this film will prompt young people (And all people for that matter) to say, ‘Do it again, Lord.’ Let’s pray for another revival!”
