Christian Movie Review: The Story of Possum Trot

By Marie

“Sound Of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot” is raw, gritty, and emotionally challenging. It doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of adoption, instead, it vividly portrays Jesus’ transformative power in people’s lives. The film encourages us to demonstrate Jesus’ unwavering love to the most vulnerable and downtrodden.

The film follows Donna and Reverend Martin and their church in East Texas, USA, as they ignite a movement for vulnerable children. Through their efforts, 22 families adopted 77 of the most difficult-to-place children from the local foster system.

“Sound Of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot” is well-directed and well-made, with a strong cast delivering emotional and raw performances that bring this true story to life.

This is not an easy story to watch; it is challenging, emotional, raw, and feels honest. The filmmakers do not shy away from showing the pain, realities, and difficulties of adopting children and the situations they faced. There are distressing and heartbreaking scenes, making this film unsuitable for everyone.

The film includes gritty situations and some bad language, and at times it feels a bit slow and could be shorter. However, the ending is one of the most special parts, where we see the real lives that have been changed and what they are now doing.

Despite showing these harsh realities, the filmmakers also highlight the true power of strong faith, how Jesus can and does change lives, and how truly sharing His love can change the world.
