Years After Trying to Fix Their Broken Marriage, God Restored It

By Marie

A couple had tried to fix their broken marriage for 11 years. But after they surrendered to God, God restored their marriage in less than a month.Carlos and Stephania Barahona were frustrated inside their marriage. They admitted that their upbringing is one factor in their approach to their relationship.Steph confessed that growing up with no father made her self-sufficient and independent. “I could do things on my own,” she said. “Don’t tell me what to do because I know what I’m doing, especially from men.”Meanwhile, Carlos opened up that he fell into rebellion because of his verbally abusive parents. So, they carried their independence and rebellious attitude into their marriage, which resulted in a miserable companionship. For 11 years, they tried to fight for their broken marriage. They went to church, appearing as if they were a happy couple. But, outside the church’s walls, they were two completely different people. One day, Carlos had had enough. He wanted to end their marriage there and then. But, as he saw his kids run into their room after his announcement, he knew that he could not leave them.Hopeless, Carlos finally turned to his mentors and received advice to attend their morning prayers, which he did.Early morning, he would go to their prayer meetings and pray to God. Then, one of their church’s ministers prayed over Carlos. He received the love and affirmation that he longed for from his wife. God’s love overflowed in Carlos and Steph started seeing the change in him.“I always wanted to see her (Steph) change first,” he said. “But God wanted me to change first because I was the head of the household. I wasn’t acting in my function.”The change in Carlos’ heart also made a change in his wife.“I think that kind of initiated something in me without me even knowing,” Steph shared. “And I truly know that it was his prayers as the man of the house, as the priesthood.”She continued, “Him affecting me is something pure. I’m able to really love him how God loves him.”ALSO READ: Naomi Raine Featured In July’s ‘Women Health’ Magazine
