Vatican Launches Innovative Minecraft Game to Engage Young Catholics

By Church News

The Vatican has unveiled a custom-designed Minecraft game aimed at educating and engaging children about Catholic values and traditions.

Titled “Vatican Craft,” the game is an innovative collaboration between the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Culture and Minecraft’s developers. This unique project seeks to harness the popularity of Minecraft, a global gaming phenomenon, to convey the richness and diversity of Catholic heritage to a younger audience.

Players of “Vatican Craft” will embark on an immersive adventure through virtual recreations of iconic Vatican landmarks, including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. As they explore and interact with these digital environments, they will encounter various challenges, puzzles, and educational content that promote Catholic teachings, values, and history.

“We are thrilled to introduce ‘Vatican Craft’ as a novel way to share the beauty and depth of our faith with children worldwide,” said Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture. “This game offers an engaging and interactive platform for young people to discover and learn about Catholicism in a fun and accessible way.”

The Vatican’s foray into Minecraft is part of a broader effort to leverage digital technologies and social media platforms to connect with younger generations and promote interfaith dialogue. By harnessing the vast reach and popularity of Minecraft, the Vatican aims to create a unique online community where children can explore, learn, and share their faith with others.

“Vatican Craft” is now available for download on the Minecraft website, with versions compatible for both PC and tablet devices. The game is suitable for children aged 8-14 and is available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
