Thousands Surrender Lives to Christ @ Youth For Christ Event
By Church News
Youth For Christ (YFC), a Christian organization during its event recently, saw over 7,000 teens and children surrender their lives to Jesus Christ this year, which is twice the total amount from last year.
YFC President and CEO Jake Bland said, “I know that God is going to use YFC to bring revival to today’s kids. YFC is currently celebrating that this year, twice as many kids made first-time decisions to follow Jesus when compared to last year.”
“It is clear that God’s Spirit is moving through leaders everywhere across the nation and that the Gospel is as needed and as effective as ever, especially as the unfailing love of Christ meets today’s changing youth landscape,” he added.
Youth for Christ emerged in post-war Britain. Damaged and broken by those tumultuous years, social change was happening with a sense of spiritual decline, particularly among young people.
From Liverpool in the northwest right down to the south coast of England, Christian leaders started to form youth groups and call young people to the name of Jesus.
Events were publicised, interest grew and by the spring of 1947, Torrey Johnson and Billy Graham were touring the nation running evangelistic events inspiring young people to follow Jesus and challenging them to use their lives in His service.
In March 1947 at a key meeting held in Birmingham Town Hall, these independent groups gathered around this catalytic event, unifying the movement around a name – Youth for Christ.
Since those early days, the movement of Youth for Christ has relentlessly continued to find the most relevant ways of reaching and presenting young people with the gospel.
The years have seen different leaders, staff, local ministries and thousands of volunteers from Youth for Christ used to catalyse events like Spring Harvest and other Christian organisations.
