The Vatican Museums Opens Final Gallery of the Raphael Rooms

The Vatican Museums have opened the final gallery of the Raphael Rooms to the public, marking the completion of a careful, decade-long restoration project.
The Raphael Rooms or Stanze di Raffaello, were painted between 1508 and 1524 by Renaissance master Raphael and his workshop. The latest space to be revealed, the Hall of Constantine, underwent extensive conservation work focused on cleaning, stabilizing original paint layers, and improving viewing conditions for visitors.
Barbara Jatta, Director of the Vatican Museums, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the restoration. Specialists used a combination of scientific analysis and traditional techniques to recover details that had become obscured over time. “The project has been about both preserving and better understanding Raphael’s vision,” Jatta said during the unveiling event.
