The Supremacy of God Over All Including Coronavirus

By Bede

Nothing stays the same. We experience changes in all aspects of life. That’s a vital evidence of the supremacy of God over all aspects of human life.

There are often moments or events that can speed up or magnify these changes. One of such events is a global pandemic. This time it’s one that will alter the way the modern world operates forever. It shouldn’t surprise us if an event such as a pandemic creates a lasting emotional change in everyone. There are lots of articles discussing post traumatic stress symptoms from tsunamis, plane crashes, to hurricane disasters and so on. Occurrences such as these change humanity and the society for ever.

The Supremacy of God

Amos 3: 6 states: “Shall a trumpet be blown in the city and the people the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil in a city and the Lord hath not done it?” This verse of scripture depicts that God is sovereign over all things including coronavirus. There isn’t any happening in the world without God’s consent. This is also emphasized in Matthew 28:18 where Jesus said: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”God is awesome, good and so supreme. He said, as recorded in Isaiah 45: 7:  “I form light and create darkness; I make well being and create calamity. I am the Lord, who does all these things.”God is working in all things in life with his perfect plan and will. By the nature of Supremacy of God, He will perform all things including the coronavirus pandemic for the good of the church. See Romans 8:28 for more insight.More importantly, Jesus will be glorified through the coronavirus. Like J.C Ryle once remarked, “Health is a good thing; but sickness is far better if it leads us to God.”The season we are right now may not appear like the most functional course to a Christian revival today.Nevertheless, history affirms that the most productive ground for church renaissance is that of uncertainty and suffering. It may appear disheartening but majority are still going to return to the Bible. In addition, things may look confusing, but many are praying on their knees.Even in brokenness, many are acknowledging their need for the Gospel.C.S Lewis must have thought deep on the issue as he said: “We can even ignore pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience but shouts in our pains: It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”The Lord knows what He is doing. We can have joy even in the midst of catastrophes like a pandemic. He is with us and will be to the end.

History of Pandemics in Churches

Unlike the 14th century Bubonic Plague and London’s Great Plague, both of which were restricted to cities, coronavirus is worldwide. In addition to its spread, it has also become a source of pandemonium and societal fear. We are dealing with an entirely perplexing socio-political tornado. It is one that has been kindled by today’s easy access to news and social media.Eventually, the pandemic is reinventing human culture which will ultimately change a lot of things. The coronavirus will change everything including the local church. As pastors, seminarians, church elders, teachers, we must be ready to embrace the change with a willing heart before God.Source: Faithwire
