By Church News

The countdown to the Experience Lagos Concert 2022 has begun and it is labelled the biggest gospel music event in Africa. It will take place in its traditional TBS (Tafawa Balewa Square) location for the first time in three years. The 17th edition of the massive gospel event will take place this December at HOTR Church’s trademark location, the organizers announced on social media.“It’s 50 days and counting down to #TheExperience2022, our annual Gospel concert that provides an opportunity for God’s children across the globe to unite under one platform and give the Master of the Universe quality praise, so far so awesome and #TE17 will be no different, get ready!”
The Experience was virtually held in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the social-distancing measures implemented during the pandemic. Among others, Travis Greene, Nathaniel Bassey, Sinach, Don Moen, Donnie McClurkin, Chevelle Franklyn, and Sonnie Badu made guest appearances in the previous episode. For this year, the artists are yet to be unveiled. The Experience (commonly known as The Experience Lagos) is an annual, free gospel music concert held in Lagos.  Begun and hosted by House on the Rock lead pastor Paul Adefarasin in 2006, the first concert had an attendance of 70,000 people.2007 was the only year in which the Experience was not presented in December; that year, the concert was moved to 30 November.Participating musicians were Kirk Franklin, Israel Houghton, and Lionel Peterson. The 5 December 2008 concert featured Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Don Moen, Fred Hammond, Kurt Carr, Chevelle Franklyn, Mary Mary, Muyiwa Olarewaju, ‘Dekunle Fuji and Midnight Crew. The fourth edition of the Experience, on 4 December 2009, featured music by Lara George, Sammie Okposo, Don Moen, Gordons, Timi Dakolo, Chevelle Franklyn, Donnie Mc Cluckin, Mike Aremu, Nikki Laoye, Rooftop MCs, Ron Kenoly, BeBe and CeCe Winans, and Kirk Franklin. As a result of the restrictions on mass gatherings and to maintain physical distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of the concert, (tagged “The Experience 15 – Global Edition”), for the first time, did not take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos which had hosted the past 14 editions.Instead, the entire concert was streamed online on YouTube, other digital platforms and designated channels on satellite television.ALSO READ The African Praise Experience By Pastor Paul Adefarasin
