Tennessee Baptists Celebrate a Century of Campus Ministry Impact

By Church News

In 1925, the Tennessee Baptist Convention made a bold commitment: to reach college students with the gospel through a dedicated ministry. That vision became Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM), and now, in 2025, Tennessee Baptists are celebrating 100 years of faithful service, spiritual growth, and campus transformation.

From its roots in the Student Volunteer Missions Movement of the late 1800s, BCM has grown into a vital presence on dozens of campuses across Tennessee.

Students have gathered for prayer, worship, discipleship, and mission work turning universities into mission fields and shaping generations of Christian leaders.

Stacy Murphree, Director of Baptist Collegiate Ministries for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, emphasized the strategic importance of BCM: “College campuses are one of our state’s most strategic mission fields. The gospel opportunity is immense, and the impact is eternal.”
