Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., known professionally as Stormzy,  a Christian British rapper, singer and songwriter, recently dropped his first single ‘Hide and Seek’ from his forthcoming album ‘This Is What I Mean’.The single was produced by the likes of PRGRSHN, Owen Cutts and P2J, and is a soft melodic tune featuring the voices of rising star Oxlade and vocalists Ayanna and Teni.Speaking to BBC Radio 2, the 29-year-old explained, “I keep calling it a soul album. I don’t call it a soul album in the sense like Aretha Franklin or like a genre. It’s just something that came from my soul, which sounds really cheesy, but that’s the only way I can describe it.”In the song, Stormzy is pledging his worth towards spirituality and greater beings, whilst putting his faith and trust in God.When speaking about the album process, the rapper explained that he found grounding in God and spirituality when creating this new project.

Also,  lyrics in the song refers to Stormzy’s three years out of the spotlight, where he candidly spoke about finding God and time to relax and find peace.

Stormzy has funded the “Stormzy Scholarship for Black UK Students” at the University of Cambridge, covering tuition costs for two students and maintenance grants for up to four years. In July 2018 it was announced that the Penguin Random House division William Heinemann was to launch a new publishing imprint in partnership with Stormzy, called #Merky Books and the imprint launched with Stormzy’s first book, Rise Up.An annual #Merky Books New Writers’ Prize is awarded to “young, underrepresented, and unpublished writers from across the UK and ROI” who are “telling the stories that are not being heard, and the stories that deserve to be read, across fiction, non-fiction or poetry.”ALSO READ ‘I’m Armed With Jesus, My Weapon Is Prayer’ – Eminem
