The Grammy-winning Soweto Gospel Choir has teamed up with Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Mr Dutch to release a new single titled “Dodorima.” This collaboration also features the soulful vocals of rising star Raybekah, adding a unique blend of gospel and Afrobeats to the track.
The single, which is part of Mr Dutch‘s upcoming debut album “They Thought I Was Done,” is a celebration of gratitude, triumph, and faith. “Dodorima,” a term derived from Nigeria’s rich linguistic heritage, carries dual meanings in Igbo and Edo, symbolizing gratitude, honesty, intelligence, and hard work.
Mr Dutch, whose real name is Bright Ukpabi, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Dodorima is my story of perseverance and faith. It’s about those moments when I had to hold on to my love for music, even when others doubted me. From life-altering experiences to countless challenges, this song is my way of saying ‘thank you’ to God, to my craft, and to my supporters”.
The Soweto Gospel Choir, known for its spiritually moving sound and commitment to Pan-African cultural roots, perfectly complements Mr Dutch’s soulful delivery. The choir’s transcendent harmonies and Raybekah’s mellifluous vocals create a powerful and impactful musical experience.
“Working with the Soweto Gospel Choir was incredible. It reminded me of my early days in church as a drummer collaborating with the choir. Their level of professionalism and talent is unmatched. When I shared my vision for ‘Dodorima,’ they immediately understood and brought it to life,” Mr Dutch added.
The release of “Dodorima” marks a significant milestone in Mr Dutch’s career as he aims to take his music to greater heights in 2025. He is also preparing for the release of his debut album in the second quarter of the year and has aspirations for Grammy recognition.
This collaboration is not only a musical triumph but also a symbol of unity between Nigeria and South Africa. It represents the power of music to bring people together and celebrate shared cultural heritage. As “Dodorima” resonates with audiences worldwide, it stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of African music and the artists who continue to push its boundaries.
