In a remarkable act of generosity, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has donated N50 million to the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Anglican Communion, in Nembe City, Bayelsa State. This heartfelt donation was made in memory of Madam Ayebadieye Edward Dorcas Igbeta, the late mother of one of his aides, who recently passed away at the age of 79.

The announcement was made during the requiem service held at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke on Thursday, February 6, 2025. The event was attended by dignitaries, church members, and residents of Nembe City, who came together to pay their respects to Madam Igbeta and celebrate her life of dedication to the church and her community.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara praised the exemplary life of Madam Igbeta, highlighting her unwavering commitment to her faith and her significant contributions to the church. “We are here as a government to show our solidarity with the family during this difficult time. We know that there is no consolation here that can fill the gap of this loss, especially the loss of a mother,” he said. His words resonated with the attendees, underscoring the profound impact that Madam Igbeta had on those around her.

Emphasizing the importance of supporting the completion of the cathedral in honour of Madam Igbeta, Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced the substantial donation. “I have been made to understand that the Cathedral will need strong support. We are going to support the completion of the Cathedral in memory of Mama with the sum of N50 million,” he stated. The funds will be used to complete ongoing construction projects at the cathedral, ensuring that it remains a place of worship and community gathering for generations to come.

The donation has been widely appreciated by the church community and the residents of Nembe City, who see it as a fitting tribute to Madam Igbeta’s legacy. The Dean of the Cathedral, Venerable John Okoro, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the church, stating, “We are deeply grateful for this generous donation. It will go a long way in helping us complete the construction of the cathedral and continue to serve our community effectively.”

Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s gesture underscores his commitment to supporting religious institutions and honouring the contributions of individuals who have made a positive impact on their communities. His donation not only provides much-needed financial support for the cathedral but also serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Madam Igbeta.

The event concluded with prayers for the repose of Madam Igbeta’s soul and a message of hope and encouragement for her family and the entire congregation. As the community reflects on her life and contributions, the donation by Governor Fubara stands as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the power of generosity and compassion.
