Russell Wilson Preaches in Maximum Security Prison

Russell Carrington Wilson, the American football quarterback for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League, preaches in maximum security prison while twenty-seven people gave their lives to Christ.Russell Wilson is a devout Christian who frequently speaks about his faith.After reaching out to the prison ministry God Behind Bars, he and his wife, American singer Ciara, led a service at the Everglades Correctional Facility in Miami.The athlete shared from Isaiah while preaching and his wife sang the popular worship hit Waymaker, alongside a band made up of prisoners.As they continued to worship, Russell brought a prisoner forward to sing, handing him the microphone and leaving the rest of the inmates “in shock”.In a post by God Behind Bars, volunteers described feeling “the atmosphere in the room change” as the rendition of Jireh, by Maverick City and Elevation Worship, began.Reflecting on his experience, Russell took to Instagram to say, “Lord there’s nothing better than YOU!!!“Over 300 Maximum Prison Inmates worshipping Jesus! His Grace and Spirit is overwhelming in the midst of mistakes He still loves and forgives.“’For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.’ – John‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬”
Wilson was an active volunteer in the Seattle community.During the NFL season, Wilson made weekly visits on his days off to the Seattle Children’s Hospital, and also visited soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.In the offseason, Wilson hosts the Russell Wilson Passing Academy, a youth football camp, in several cities.In 2012, proceeds from the camp went to the Charles Ray III Diabetes Association, for which Wilson is the National Ambassador.In 2013 and 2014, Wilson partnered with Russell Investments for its “Invested with Russell” program, which donated $3,000 to Wilson’s charitable foundation for every touchdown he scored.Wilson co-hosts an annual charity golf event along with NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Washington to support various organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Seattle Children’s Hospital.In August 2016, Wilson’s Why Not You Foundation raised $1,060,005 for the Seattle Children’s Hospital’s Strong Against Cancer initiative.In March 2020, Wilson and Ciara partnered with Food Lifeline to donate one million meals to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.ALSO READ: Hundreds of female inmates baptized at Denver Women’s Correctional Facility
