RCCG Supports Host Communities With Basic Amenities

By Church News

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Love Assembly Province I, took its Christian Social Responsibility (CSR) to some communities in Lagos, where it commissioned streetlights, carried out house numbering, swept streets, and cleared gutters from filth in fulfilment of the mission’s policy of positively impacting on the less privileged and their host communities.Speaking at the event, tagged: “Christian Social Responsibility,” the Pastor-in-charge of Lagos Province 1, who also doubles as the Assistant Pastor in-charge of Region 1, Pastor Samuel Bode Olaniyan, described the exercise as an integrated intervention to give back to society and make the church’s presence felt.He said that the three-in-one project started in the community where the headquarters of RCCG church is located.“We are fixing street lights, starting from our street, Adefowope Street, to be followed by other streets for security reasons. We are clearing the drains to rid the community of rodents, and mosquitoes and mitigate flooding. We are also numbering our streets inconsistent with modern practice to enable strangers to locate their destination without hassle,” he said.Pastor Olaniyan also disclosed that the church carries out its medical outreach programme twice a month for members of the community. The Chairman of the Ilupeju Central Community Development Association, Kole Abe, who witnessed the gesture, commended the church for embarking on such projects. He called on other churches and spiritual bodies to emulate RCCG, Love Assembly, by giving back to their host communities. He said, “We have been intimated about this project for some months back and we found it very commendable and we have been interfacing with them to ensure it comes to fruition. This is what ministry is all about, because they are going out of their way to go to key issues, lighting the streets clearing the drainages and numbering the houses, when citizens sit down and wait for government to do everything, we all suffer. But when organizations arise like in the good old days and begin to do things, life becomes more meaningful.”The Assistant Pastor in charge of Christian Social Responsibility, Lagos Province 1, Oluwasegun Olatona who put the cost of the project at over an N1million, disclosed that the church in the past collaborated with Yaba Psychiatric Hospital to sensitise the youth of the dangers of drugs abuse, among others.ALSO READ UK Christian Charity Calls For Churches To Step In To Support Schools
