16-year-old Brazilian skateboarder Rayssa Leal has proudly expressed her Christian faith at the Paris Olympics.

After securing the bronze medal in the women’s street skateboarding final on Sunday 28th July, Rayssa Leal used sign language to quote John 14:6, as shared in a video by Dom Lucre on X.

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,'” the Scripture reads.

The International Olympics Committee allows athletes in Paris to represent themselves, their faith, and their nation. “For the Olympic Village, the IOC rules apply,” an IOC spokesperson told Reuters.

In 2021, Leal became Brazil’s youngest Olympian at aged 13, winning the silver medal in the skateboarding street competition.

On Sunday, her performance earned her the second-highest score of 92.88, propelling her from fifth to third place.

“When I was very young, I dreamed of becoming a skateboard athlete,” Rayssa Leal told reporters. “And here I am, with a second Olympic medal from the games. Once again, thank God I won a medal. I’m very happy to be here.”
