Pope Leo XIV to Inaugurate Academic Year at Pontifical Lateran University

Pope Leo XIV is set to inaugurate the academic year at Rome’s prestigious Pontifical Lateran University tomorrow, November 14, 2025. The ceremony, known as “Dies Academicus,” marks the official opening of the 2025-2026 academic year and will take place at 11 a.m. in the university’s Aula Magna.
Pope Leo XIV’s presence is a first for the university, and his visit is expected to highlight the importance of formation and education in the Church and society ¹ ² ³.
The Pontifical Lateran University, founded in 1773 by Pope Clement XIV, boasts a rich history and offers a range of academic programs, including theology, philosophy, canon law, and civil law. The university has approximately 1,100 students, with over 40% being laypeople, reflecting its commitment to serving the universal Church and society.
The event will be attended by the Grand Chancellor, Cardinal Baldassare Reina, and the Rector Magnifico, Archbishop Alfonso Amarante, along with other academic authorities and guests from the ecclesiastical and cultural world
