Pope Leo XIV marked the 56th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing with a special address from St. Peter’s Basilica, calling for global cooperation in space exploration and earthly solidarity.

Speaking to an international audience via livestream, the pontiff praised the courage of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, referring to their mission as a “testament to the boundless curiosity planted in the human spirit by the Creator.”

Pope Leo called for support of future space initiatives that uphold peace and sustainability, saying: “As we gaze upon the same moon from every corner of our divided world, let us be reminded that exploration is not only of the stars, but of the soul.”
