Pope Leo XIV Brings Message of Hope to Beirut

By Church News

Pope Leo XIV held a mass in Beirut, Lebanon, attended by around 150,000 people, as part of his three-day visit to the country. The event was a significant moment for Lebanon, which has been struggling with economic and political crises.

Before the mass, the Pope visited the site of the 2020 port explosion, which killed over 220 people and devastated the capital, praying silently and lighting a lamp in memory of the victims.

The Pope’s message focused on unity, peace, and reconciliation, urging Lebanese to disarm their hearts and work together to rebuild their country. He emphasized the importance of justice, forgiveness, and mutual respect, calling on Christians and Muslims to combat intolerance and violence.

During his visit, Pope Leo XIV met with religious leaders, including Christian and Muslim representatives, and addressed young people, encouraging them to be agents of change and hope in Lebanon. He also visited a psychiatric hospital, praising the work of the nuns and staff.
