Pope Leo Begins Annual Summer Retreat
By Marie
Pope Leo has begun his traditional two-week summer retreat in the lakeside residence of Castel Gandolfo.
Greeted by local clergy, staff, and well-wishers, the pontiff smiled warmly before entering the papal villa nestled in the Alban Hills, about 25 kilometres southeast of Rome.
According to Vatican spokesperson Sister Elena Maria, the Pope is expected to spend his time “in quiet prayer, personal study, and informal meetings with close aides.” No public events are scheduled during the retreat, though Pope Leo is anticipated to lead the Angelus from the villa’s balcony on Sunday.
