Pope Francis Urges Papuan kids to ‘keep the light of love burning’

Pope Francis has urged children in Papua New Guinea to remember that “there is hope for everyone” and that each individual has a “role and mission in the world that no one else can fulfil.”

Pope Francis spoke to some 800 children cared for by Street Ministry and Callan Services at the Caritas Technical Secondary School in the national capital, Port Moresby. The pope also answered the children’s questions in a meeting.

Responding to a question from a child from the Street Ministry on how to make the world more beautiful, Francis said that love is the key.

“For sure, with the same ‘recipe’ of learning day by day to love God and others with all our hearts!” he said.

Using sign language, a child from Callan Services asked the pope why he was “not able like others?”

Pope Francis responded, “None of us is like anyone else because we are all unique in God’s eyes!”

“It is not only that there is hope for everyone,” the pope said and stressed that each person has a unique role and mission that no one else can fulfill.

“Our joy depends on nothing else: only on love!” he added.

The pope thanked the children for the questions and finally urged everyone to keep “the light of love burning” as a symbol of hope for the world.

Francis also remarked that the most beautiful and essential thing in a person’s life is to welcome the love we receive from the people who love us with open arms.

He also urged the children to study and put their best efforts into every opportunity to grow, improve, and refine their gifts and skills.

Using the cat’s example of preparing for a big jump, Francis urged the students to prepare well by focusing all their strength on their goal, “which is love for Jesus and in him for all the brothers and sisters we need on the way.”
