Pilgrims Gather in Prayer as Pope Francis Remains Hospitalized

By Church News

As Pope Francis continues his recovery in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, thousands of pilgrims have gathered in prayer, seeking divine intervention for the pontiff’s health. The 88-year-old pope was admitted to the hospital on February 14, 2025, after a weeklong bout of bronchitis worsened, leading to a respiratory tract infection.

The Vatican has reported that Pope Francis is showing signs of improvement, with his fever subsiding and his condition stabilizing. Despite this, the pope’s medical team has prescribed absolute rest, and he will not lead the Angelus prayer on Sunday, February 16.

Pilgrims from around the world have flocked to St. Peter’s Square and other holy sites, offering prayers and lighting candles for the pope’s swift recovery. The outpouring of support reflects the deep affection and respect that many hold for Pope Francis, who has been a spiritual leader and advocate for peace and social justice since his election in 2013.

The Vatican has expressed gratitude for the numerous messages of closeness and affection received from around the globe. As the pope continues his treatment, the faithful remain hopeful and united in prayer, trusting in God’s healing power.
