Worshippers gathered in northern Peru recently for the unveiling of a five-metre tall statue of Pope Leo XIV, commemorating the pontiff’s deep ties to the country.

The fiberglass monument now stands at the Gran Chimu roundabout in Chiclayo, which local authorities announced will be renamed the “Papal Oval.”

The statue forms part of a new tourist route called “Paths of Pope Leo XIV”, designed to highlight sites connected to his pastoral mission in Peru, where he served from 1985 until 2023.
