In a remarkable gesture of generosity, Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Superintendent Pastor of Citadel Global Community Church, has donated a 6KVA hybrid solar inverter to the Faculty of Law at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). This donation, made in celebration of his 70th birthday, underscores his commitment to education and sustainability.

The event, themed “Let There Be Light,” took place on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall within the university premises. It was attended by distinguished guests from the legal, political, and academic sectors, as well as staff and students of UNILAG. Among the notable attendees were Justice Kazeem Alogba, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN, Mr. Tonye Cole, and Mrs. Folashade Alli2.

“Let’s learn to give back to society. The journey began when I turned 50. At that time, I transformed my primary school into a model primary school.

“When I turned 60, I decided to contribute to my secondary school, Lisabi Grammar School. With the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lisabi received N474m, and today there is a Tunde Bakare House on the premises.”

“Now, as I turn 70, I felt it was time to give back to my university. It is a great privilege to serve my alma mater, and this is also the moment to serve Nigeria.

“I don’t have to be President to make an impact; I can influence the nation by supporting a godly leader,” Pastor Bakare said.

Pastor Bakare, an alumnus of the Faculty of Law, also announced the establishment of a ₦250,000 endowment fund for the best graduating student of the faculty. This initiative aims to encourage academic excellence and motivate students to strive for greatness. Reflecting on his journey through the institution, Bakare expressed pride in his alma mater and emphasized the importance of giving back to society.

In his speech, Bakare highlighted the significance of the donation, especially in light of the rising costs of electricity and other municipal services faced by public tertiary institutions like UNILAG. He encouraged students to be diligent and to become change agents within their communities.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abiola Sanni, praised Bakare’s contributions, noting that the initiatives would bring significant benefits to the faculty. He urged students to leverage this support and contribute meaningfully to societal progress.

The event also featured cultural performances from the students of the Faculty of Law, who recited moving poems in honour of Pastor Bakare’s generosity and leadership. These heartfelt tributes reflected the admiration and respect he commands among the next generation of legal minds.
