Pastor Max Lucado commemorates 50 Years of Faith with His First Tattoo

By Church News

At 70, Pastor Max Lucado, a best-selling author and widely respected spiritual leader, decided to make an indelible mark to commemorate five decades of unwavering faith. The milestone, celebrating fifty years of walking in grace, inspired Lucado to do something deeply personal: he got his first tattoo.

The tattoo is a powerful word, “Tetelestai,” inked onto his right forearm. A Greek term meaning “It is finished,” these were Christ’s final words on the cross, signifying the completion of His redemptive sacrifice for humanity’s sins. For Lucado, this word carries profound significance—it encapsulates the fulfilment of God’s promise and the gratitude he feels for five decades of spiritual transformation.

Pastor Max Lucado’s journey to faith began during a pivotal spring evening in 1975. He candidly recalls his troubled years before that night, describing struggles with personal failures and a longing for something greater than himself. It was during that transformative moment that he embraced the grace and forgiveness of Christ, a decision that set him on a path to become one of the most recognised voices in Christian ministry.

Reflecting on his life since then, Lucado acknowledges that the journey of faith hasn’t always been easy. He has faced hardships and grappled with feelings of inadequacy. Yet, he remains steadfast in his testimony that Jesus has never failed him even when he has faltered. For Lucado, the tattoo is far more than a piece of art; it is a tangible, lasting expression of thanksgiving and trust in God’s enduring faithfulness.

Aware that the decision might raise eyebrows among some members of the Christian community, Pastor Max Lucado shares that the tattoo is not meant to be controversial. Rather, it is a deeply personal act of devotion, an external reminder of an internal truth. By choosing to mark himself in this way, Lucado hopes to inspire others to reflect on the message of grace and redemption.

Lucado continues his ministry with the same fervour that has defined his career. Through his sermons, books, and outreach efforts, he shares the transformative power of grace, urging individuals to embrace faith and trust in God’s unending love. His new tattoo stands as a testament to a lifetime of faith and as an encouragement to others to seek and celebrate their spiritual journey.
