Pastor Enoch Adeboye: God’s Mercy Saved Anthony Joshua from Fatal Accident

By Marie

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has attributed Anthony Joshua’s survival in a fatal accident to God’s mercy.

The Nigerian-English boxer was involved in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29, 2025, which claimed the lives of two of his friends, Ayodele Kevin and Ghami Sina.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye revealed that Joshua had switched seats with one of his friends before the accident, and the person who was originally in his seat died. “I read in the newspapers yesterday that our boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, exchanged seats with someone before the accident. The people he exchanged seats with died. I don’t know why, but the mercy of God said someone would still be alive,” he said.

The pastor emphasized that human survival is not based on cleverness or abilities, but on God’s mercy. Joshua, who suffered minor injuries, has been discharged from the hospital.

Pastor Adeboye quoted Lamentations 3:22-23, “It is by the mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed. We are alive because of the mercies of the Lord, not because of cleverness”
