Pastor Adefarasin Questions U.S. Interest in Nigerian Christians
By Marie
Senior Pastor of Guiding Light Assembly, Wale Adefarasin, has expressed skepticism over the United States government’s recent concern for the welfare of Christians in Nigeria, calling the attention “curious” in light of the nation’s enduring history of religious conflict.
During a recent church service in Lagos, Pastor Adefarasin stated that assaults on Christians in northern Nigeria have persisted for decades, yet have seldom attracted significant international scrutiny. He suggested that the sudden spotlight from global powers raises questions about their motives and timing.
“For 40 years that I have been a Christian, there have been killings in southern Kaduna, killings on the plateau, there have been riots.
“Sometimes, I think it was in France, an image of Prophet Muhammad was defaced. Who remembers that? And as a result of that, there were killings of Christians in Nigeria.
“It’s nothing new. It doesn’t amount to genocide. The way the West are talking about it, it’s as if a Christian steps on the street, his head will be blown off,” Adefarasin said.
