The Kukah Centre (TKC),  a Nigerian-based policy research institute, founded by Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, in partnership with The Fountain Of Life Church empowered Christian widows with management skills in Benue state. The project, titled “Supporting and Building the Resilience of Christian Women Adversely Impacted by the Conflict in Kaduna,” was geared towards developing a strong spirit in women to come out of their trauma and become useful members of society.TKC director Father Atta Barkindo said, “The participants are survivors of different forms of hardship occasioned by years of ethnic-religious crises and violent conflict in Benue state with no or limited means of earning a living, this project targets to train 50 Christian widows who have been adversely impacted by violent conflicts in Benue state.”Its objectives include building the social resilience and economic recovery of widows on the fringes of the state who have been neglected by both government and non-governmental interventions.
The women were mobilized with much care and taken through weeks of training, after which they were each given ₦50,000 (fifty thousand naira) as start-up support for the skills gained.
Under the firm leadership of Hajara Waziri, the project thrived; birthing 50 empowered widows in Benue and 25 last year in Kaduna. From baking to making household products, these women were taught by skilled professionals theoretically and practically.
Benefitting widows were urged to be prudent and faithful in trusting the process to birth great businesses while Pastor Simeon Nyihemba commended the team for their hard work and commitment to the cause and admonished beneficiaries to take this opportunity to turn their lives around.
The mission of The Fountain of Life Church is to provide a home for the lost; guide those in search of direction, purpose and calling; and raise people who are committed to making a difference. While that of The Kukah Centre is believing that the pursuit of the common good of all citizens should be the basis for the existence of government and that citizen participation in their affairs should be at the heart of governance, where they aspire to set up a mediating institution for achieving this. The Centre, whose motto is “Faith, leadership and public policy,” has offices in Abuja and Kaduna and treats political leadership as a collaborative exercise which requires multiple governance structures at the individual, household, small business, and organized private sector, NGO and government levels.ALSO READ The Fountain of Life Church: Child Protection Network celebrates Day of the African Child
