Methodist Church Set to Establish Media Stations
By Church News
The Methodist Church of Nigeria is set to establish its own media stations (radio and television) to spread the gospel.
The announcement was made public by the new Prelate of the Church, Dr Oliver Aba, who said it became necessary for the church to have media stations to take advantage of the media in airing its activities to the Christian body.
Dr Samuel Kalu, the outgoing prelate, advised Aba to inculcate a bold attitude, adding that he must always speak out in the face of coercion or oppression.
The cleric further urged Aba to defend his flock, saying, “inability of Christian leaders to defend their people is one of the reasons for the attack on the Christian body.”
In 2020, the Nigeria Area Bishop John Wesley Yohanna helped lay the foundation for Grace Radio, a new United Methodist radio station in Taraba State.
“The mission of this radio station is to provide a platform that will provide information, education and entertainment for communities in Taraba State and beyond. We are very glad for this turn of events and we ask that God will give us the ability, power and capacity to accomplish his mandate here on earth,” Yohanna said.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for the building that will house the radio station, the bishop inaugurated a team of specialists who will offer guidance on the different phases of the program, which include construction, equipment procurement, staffing and programming, licensing and the commissioning of the station.
Bishop Yohanna added, “(It) will bring peace and unity among United Methodists, Christians and Muslims and other people as well. Our mission is to reach thousands for Christ and touch an untold number of lives.”
The project is an initiative of The United Methodist Church in Nigeria in partnership with United Methodist Communications and the United Methodist Radio Network.
