Marc Guehi Receives FA Warning for ‘I Love Jesus’ Rainbow Armband

By Church News

Crystal Palace captain, Marc Guehi has found himself at the centre of controversy after inscribing “I Love Jesus” on his rainbow-coloured captain’s armband during a Premier League match against Newcastle United. The incident occurred during the league’s Rainbow Laces campaign, which aims to promote equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community.

The Football Association (FA) initially considered disciplinary action against Guehi for violating Law 4, which prohibits political, religious, or personal slogans on players’ equipment. However, the FA has decided to issue a formal reprimand instead, reminding Guehi and Crystal Palace of the regulations.

Marc Guehi, a devout Christian, has previously spoken about the significant role his faith plays in his life and career. Despite the reprimand, the FA’s decision has sparked a broader conversation about the intersection of personal beliefs and public campaigns in sports.

The incident has highlighted the challenges faced by sports organizations in balancing inclusivity campaigns with the diverse beliefs of their players.
