King Charles III Accepts Key Role Within The Church of Scotland

King Charles III accepted a key role within the Church of Scotland during his Accession Council at St James’ Palace.The council comprises of Privy Counsellors, a select group of senior politicians, including new Prime Minister Liz Truss, religious figures from the Church of England, the Lord Mayor of London and other top civil servants from across British society and the 14 other “realms,” or nations, for which the monarch serves as the official head of state.King Charles made a formal oath to the security of the Church of Scotland and this oath was taken at the point of accession to the Crown, with Charles saying he was “ready to do so at this first opportunity”.He said, “I understand that the Law requires that I should, at my accession to the Crown, take and subscribe to the Oath relating to the Security of the Church of Scotland. I am ready to do so at this first opportunity.“I, Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of my other Realms and Territories, King, Defender of the Faith, do faithfully promise and swear that I shall inviolably maintain and preserve the Settlement of the true Protestant Religion as established by the Laws made in Scotland in prosecution of the Claim of Right and particularly by an Act intituled ‘An Act for securing the Protestant Religion and Presbyterian Church Government’ and by the Acts passed in the Parliament of both Kingdoms for Union of the two Kingdoms, together with the Government, Worship, Discipline, Rights and Privileges of the Church of Scotland. “So help me God.”In his role, the sovereign has the right to attend the General Assembly, but not to take part in its deliberations.In matters of doctrine, government, discipline, and worship, the Church of Scotland is free of State interference and is operating under a constitution largely contained in the Articles Declaratory.ALSO READ Fifteen New Ministers Swears Oath Of Allegiance To King Charles III
