Ini Edo Apologizes to CAN Over Film Title “A Very Dirty Christmas”
By Church News
Nollywood actress Ini Edo has publicly apologized to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) following backlash over the title of her new movie, A Very Dirty Christmas.
The controversy erupted after the film’s promotional materials began circulating online, with many Christians describing the title as offensive and insensitive. CAN argued that the phrase trivialized the sacredness of Christmas and portrayed the Christian celebration in a negative light, urging filmmakers to show greater sensitivity toward religious values.
In an emotional Instagram Live session, Ini Edo addressed the concerns directly, expressing regret over the unintended offense. “If I had known that the title A Very Dirty Christmas would cause this kind of reaction, I would have changed it,” she said. “I want to sincerely apologise to CAN and the Christian community. I am a Christian, and everyone on the production team is Christian. We prayed and reverenced God throughout the process. It was never our intention to insult or disgrace Christianity.”
