Ibiza Lighthouse Church Celebrates First Baptism

By Church News

Ibiza Lighthouse Church through house music is reaching out to the island’s partygoers and has celebrated its first baptism, just days after its launch.

The new church in Ibiza is the only English-speaking church on the island, held its first service on Sunday, attracting over 70 people.

Church leader and Rapper, Mark Edwards began his ministry as an evangelistic rap artist known as MC Tempo.

He said that as he rapped in nightclubs, God “broke his heart” for people there.

“It was like ministry 101, you see someone struggling, you serve them. You get an opportunity to minister to them, it was nothing more complicated than that,” he said.

According to Edwards, the goal of the Ibiza Lighthouse Church is to offer the message of Jesus to those often overlooked by older liturgical churches.

“We launched with 77 people, which is quite a lot considering it’s out of season,” Edwards said.

“We baptised one of the biggest rave promoters on the island who fills nightclubs two months in advance.”

Ibiza which is  known for its nightlife, may seem like an unlikely setting for a church, but Edwards believes the island’s party culture presents a unique opportunity.

“House music is an integral part of the culture here,” he said. “It’s a great way to reach DJs, rappers, and people who wouldn’t normally attend a more traditional church.”

“We want to see people come here, encounter Jesus, and actively connect them to churches back home,” Edwards said, “God is doing something incredible here.
