A former nightclub in Hull is set for a major transformation, as plans move forward to convert the venue into a place of worship.

The Potter’s House Church, currently located on Alexandra Road, has proposed converting The Piper, a well-known nightclub on Newland Avenue, into its new home. The move comes as the congregation outgrows its existing space. Church leader Reverend Peter Dua shared his enthusiasm for the transition, saying, “We need a larger building to accommodate our growing community.”

The Piper, which closed its doors in 2023, was a staple of Hull’s nightlife for decades, previously serving as the Monica Cinema before becoming a nightclub in the 1960s. Now, the church aims to repurpose the building for Sunday services, community programs, and charitable initiatives.

Interior renovations will include removing the bar and seating booths, while the church also plans minor exterior enhancements, such as updated signage.
