The Nigerian government has confirmed the release of the remaining 130 schoolchildren abducted last month from a Catholic boarding school in Niger State, bringing an end to one of the country’s largest mass kidnappings in recent years.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced on Sunday that the children, taken from St. Mary’s Catholic boarding school in Papiri village on November 21, were freed following a “military-intelligence driven operation.”
“The freedom of the schoolchildren followed a military-intelligence driven operation,” Onanuga said in a post on X, praising the efforts of security forces.
