Franklin Graham Shares the Gospel in Ethiopia, Inspiring Thousands

In March 2025, renowned evangelist Franklin Graham brought a powerful message of hope and faith to Ethiopia during a two-day outreach event titled “Encountering God.” Held at Meskel Square in Addis Ababa, the gathering drew an overwhelming crowd, with over 4,000 individuals committing their lives to Jesus Christ.
This visit marked Graham’s 11th trip to Ethiopia, 65 years after his father, the late Billy Graham, first preached in the same city. Franklin Graham emphasized the timeless relevance of the Gospel, stating, “The world has changed, politics have changed, but the Gospel does not change. It’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
The event was organized by the Ethiopian Council of Gospel Believers’ Churches, a coalition of over 3,000 local churches. Months of preparation, prayer, and discipleship training preceded the outreach, which aimed to strengthen the faith of attendees and connect new believers with Bible-based churches for continued spiritual growth.
The gathering also highlighted Ethiopia’s journey toward religious freedom, with leaders reflecting on past challenges under restrictive regimes. Pastor Ashebir Ketema, a survivor of the communist era, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to preach freely, calling it “the hand of God.”
Franklin Graham’s heartfelt sermons, centred on God’s love and the transformative power of faith, left a lasting impact on the attendees. His visit not only celebrated the enduring legacy of the Gospel but also inspired a renewed sense of hope and unity among the people of Ethiopia.
