Ebenezer Obey Commences Prayers For Alcoholics, Drug Addicts
By Church News
Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has reiterated his commitment to helping alcoholics and drug-dependent persons on the road to recovery.
In a statement signed by his General Manager, Tunji Odunmbaku, the music icon expressed gratitude to everyone, especially the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; governors, senators, traditional rulers, fellow musicians, clerics and other well-meaning Nigerians.
He said, “I sincerely thank you all for your messages. They mean a lot to me and the entire Obey-Fabiyi family. I can’t thank everyone enough for the outpouring of love, concern and support. It was indeed overwhelming.”
“I want to specially thank Pastor Adeboye, governors, Senators, traditional rulers, fellow musicians, great men of God too numerous to mention, and other well-meaning Nigerians. I pray that God will grant peace to all grieving parents and victims of alcoholism and drug addiction all over the world, he added.
In furtherance of that objective, the musician announced that he will be starting a ‘Five Minutes Daily Prayers’ session for alcoholics and drug-addicted persons, and their families.
Ebenezer Obey began his professional career in the mid-1950s and began experimenting with Yoruba percussion style and expanding on the band by adding more drum kits, guitars and talking drums.
The music legend’s musical strengths lie in weaving intricate Yoruba axioms into dance-floor compositions.
As is characteristic of Nigerian Yoruba social-circle music, the Inter-Reformers band excel in praise-singing for rich Nigerian socialites and business tycoons.
Obey, however, is also renowned for Christian spiritual themes in his music and has since the early-1990s retired into Nigerian gospel music ministry.
It will be worthy of note to also say that Chief Commander just as he is fondly called by his fans, has played alongside popular gospel music veteran, Pastor Kunle Ajayi during his 30 years on stage concert in Lagos.
Some of his gospel songs include: Count Your Blessing on the Rock, Good News, I Am a Winner Walking Over, Millennial Blessings, Promised Land and Ase Oluwa.
