Daniel Olukoya Voices Concerns Over Rising Tuition Fees in Faith-Based Universities

By Church News

Dr Daniel Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), has raised concerns about the escalating tuition fees in faith-based universities across Nigeria.

Speaking at an event in Akure, Ondo State, where the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) conferred him with an honourary doctoral degree in management, Olukoya attributed the high fees to the significant costs associated with maintaining these institutions, particularly the energy expenses.

Dr Olukoya, who is also the proprietor of Mountain Top University in Ogun State, explained that the high cost of diesel and the need to run generators for power are major factors driving up the operational costs of these universities. He noted that while efforts are being made to install solar power to reduce these expenses, the financial burden remains substantial.

He emphasised that the high tuition fees are not a result of greed or mismanagement by the proprietors but are necessary to ensure the quality of education and to attract and retain qualified lecturers and professors. Olukoya highlighted the challenges faced by parents in affording these fees and called for divine intervention to address the broader economic and security issues impacting the country.

Dr Olukoya’s remarks have sparked a debate on social media, with many Nigerians expressing their views on the affordability and accessibility of education in faith-based institutions. As the conversation continues, it remains to be seen what measures will be taken to address these concerns and make education more accessible to all.
