Dame Sarah Mullally to Be Formally Elected as 106th Archbishop of Canterbury

Dame Sarah Mullally is set to be formally elected the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, becoming the first woman to hold the Church of England’s most senior post.
The election took place at Canterbury Cathedral’s medieval Chapter House, where the College of Canons issued a sealed certificate to King Charles III confirming the decision. Public declarations will also be displayed at the cathedral, with Letters Patent to be issued in the King’s name.
Mullally, who was named Archbishop-designate in October, previously served as the Bishop of London. In a statement, she expressed her hope to “encourage the Church to continue to grow in confidence in the gospel, to speak of the love that we find in Jesus Christ and for it to shape our actions.”
She met King Charles at Buckingham Palace last week in what was believed to be their first official meeting since her appointment.
