Church of the Holy Spirit to Host Street Dance Service
By Church News
Next month, the Church of the Holy Spirit (German: Heiliggeistkirche) is hosting a street dance service and a “Church Battle” dance competition.
The Church of the Holy Spirit, which attracts millions of tourists every year, launched a “City Church Rock ’n’ Pop” worship series in 2015. Faced with plummeting church attendance rates in Germany, Pastor Christof Ellsiepen said faith leaders are “giving space to the questions and issues that occupy the younger generations.”
In the historic German city, the 600-year-old church was initially “built for Gregorian liturgical music”.
The Church of the Holy Spirit is the largest church in Heidelberg, Germany. The church, located in the marketplace in the old town center, was constructed between 1398 and 1515 in the Romanesque and Gothic styles. It receives 1–3 million guests annually, making it among the most visited churches in Germany.
