Church Members Stop Gunman, Prevent Mass Shooting in Michigan
By Marie
Church members and staff of CrossPointe Community Church in Michigan thwarted a potential mass shooting. Around 11 a.m., a 31-year-old man wearing a tactical vest and armed with a rifle and handgun began firing outside the church, which was filled with over 150 worshippers, including children performing Vacation Bible School songs.
“The hand of God was on us. We were definitely protected… There is no question about it,” Pastor Bobby Kelly said.
As the gunman approached, a church deacon struck him with a pickup truck, giving two security team members time to shoot and fatally wound the attacker. One staff member was shot in the leg but survived.
“We are grateful for the heroic actions of the church’s staff members who undoubtedly saved many lives,” said Police Chief Ryan Strong.
