Christian Movie Review: The Thorn
By Church News
The Thorn tells the epic story of God’s love for the world and the spiritual battle for all humanity.
Often described as cirque meets the passion of Jesus, The Thorn combines dance, martial arts, aerial acrobatics and emotionally powerful performances witnessed live by over one million people.
This unique blend of theatrical performing arts and live-action cinema engages the audience in the ultimate story of love, sacrifice, and redemption like never before.
In 1996, while working as youth pastors in Colorado, John and Sarah Bolin and their team created The Thorn to communicate to students their unconditional value to God.
Designed as an interactive, relevant retelling of the Story of God, it was initially performed to a small audience of high school students.
For more than 25 years, in front of 1.5 million people on stages across the US, The Thorn has shared in a spectacular way history’s most epic story: God’s love for the world amidst the spiritual battle for all of humanity.
Now this beautifully filmed version of the stage show with added features to brings you even closer to the amazing story will be available for even more to see and be a part of.
With incredibly high production values, The Thorn is an epic passion drama blending a full range of visual arts from drama, dance, martial arts, music, arial performers, pyrotechnics and visual effects.
These elements all work and flow so well together to show history from creation to resurrection combined with glimpses of the spiritual realm.
It is well written, produced and directed. The film version adds a new element to the story telling through the eyes of John and Asher ( a young boy on the run from the Romans) on the island of Patmos. The film version also allows us to get closer to the performance, being able to see everything from up on the stage making it more personal and intimate in a way.
