Christian Movie Review: The Hill
By Church News
The film follows the true story of Rickey Hill who grow up impoverished in a small town in Texas, USA. Young Rickey shows an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease.
His stern, pastor father discourages Rickey from playing baseball to protect him from injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps and become a preacher. Rickey becomes a baseball phenomenon and desires to participate in a try-out for a legendary major league scout, dividing his family and threatening his dream of playing professional baseball.
This film is extremely well produced, everything works and complements each other from the cinematography to the sound, the script and the acting (with strong acting from Dennis Quaid as James Hill, Colin Ford as Rickey Hill and Jesse Berry as Young Rickey Hill). This really draws you into the film and into the story as if you are there with Rickey, it takes you on an incredible emotive journey and will leave you celebrating everything that God can do.
While this is an amazing story and we see the power of God at work, we have to offer a word of Caution: We noticed a few times that God’s name was used inappropriately. We believe that amongst other things, Christian films should never use God’s name inappropriately.
