Christian Aid Launches Emergency Appeal
By Church News
Christian Aid has launched an urgent emergency appeal in response to an earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan, killing over 800 people and leaving thousands in desperate need of shelter, food, and medical care.
The earthquake, which shook buildings from Kabul to Islamabad, caused widespread destruction in rural areas where homes made of mud and wood collapsed under the tremors. Kunar Province, one of the worst-hit regions, is now the focus of relief efforts led by Christian Aid’s local partner, the Organisation for Coordination of Humanitarian Relief (OCHR).
Christian Aid released an initial £50,000 to support emergency operations, including the distribution of food parcels, clean water kits, blankets, cooking sets, and medical supplies.
