Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry (CADAM) marks World Drug Day.

By Church News

Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry (CADAM), a faith-based Non-Governmental Organisation which fights against Drug and Substance abuse under the umbrella of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) marks World Drug Day with the international theme being, “ Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crisis”.

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is a day set aside by The United Nations and marked on 26 June every year, to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a world free of drug abuse.

CADAM‘s theme for the World Drug Day “Regardless, Speak Up, Get Help” admonishes everyone suffering under the scourge of Drug and Substance Abuse not to shy away from speaking up because of associated stigma and ostracization by family and society and are also encouraged to reach out to CADAM for the needed help by providing counselling at their Head office in Lagos and their treatment & rehabilitation in Epe and Abeokuta.

CADAM has worked closely with other stakeholders for over 30 years in the sector to treat and rehabilitate people with drug use disorders. Recently in Lagos on World Drug Day, CADAM went across some Churches through an engagement programme that involved about a hundred anti-drug abuse advocates on the increasing menace of Drug Abuse during various Church Services.

This is because more people are resorting to using drug abuse as a coping mechanism due to the high insecurity (local insurgency, banditry, kidnappings & killings) and economic hardship resulting from the gradually subsiding Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing international wars.

An awareness walk will hold at the RCCG Redemption Camp, Mowe, Ogun State on Tuesday, June 28 by members of Staff and Friends of CADAM to further promote the theme: ” Regardless, Speak Up, Get help” while also providing information on Drug Abuse to all.  The walk will also run simultaneously in Epe and Port Harcourt to raise awareness and also encourage other stakeholders in the Anti-Drug Abuse sector to do more.
