Chris Tomlin Releases New Album
By Church News
Chris Tomlin, best known for his hit worship songs “How Great Is Our God,” “Holy is the Lord” and “We Fall Down,” released his 17th album ‘Always’ earlier in the month.
Tomlin, a well-known contemporary Christian singer and songwriter, wants people to feel God in a profound way instead of just singing about him.
Tomlin said, “When we think about worship, in the one word — ‘always’ [and] How powerful [it is]. It means that the word “always” is eternal, unchanging, inexhaustible, faithful. There aren’t many things in life that are everlasting.”
He explained that many things have an end and that many things fail in this world.
Tomlin’s favourite Bible verses are the inspiration for the new album, 2 Timothy 2:13, “God is faithful, even if we are faithless because He can’t deny Himself.”
He further stated that even though the world is full of chaos, the Christian faith does not have to be “30 minutes old.”
Tomlin said, “Hebrews 13 says, ‘Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.’ All those things are reasons why that word ‘always’ is the title,” he continued. “There’s so much in that word – ‘always.’ And that’s what worship is. It is eternal.”
“In these songs, what we do is eternal; we are joining in the eternal song of Heaven that never stops. Hopefully, people grab that when they hear this music. It’s a reminder of like, ‘Wow, I come before an always faithful, always present God,” he added.
The album features guest vocals from Elevation Worship Christian worship band and singers Steffany Gretzinger and Brandon Lake. The album also contains a rendition of “Oh Lord! You’re Beautiful,” a hymn originally sung by Christian artist, Keith Green.
Tomlin believes the new songs will lead people to God, “Music and writing these songs is helping people to see more than singing,” said the worship leader.
