Camp Mystic Announces Plans to Reopen
By Church News
Camp Mystic, a Texas summer camp devastated by catastrophic floods on July 4, plans to partially reopen next summer. The camp, which has been in operation since 1926, will mark its 100th anniversary by welcoming campers to its Cypress Lake site, while the Guadalupe River site remains closed due to extensive damage.
Many families have criticized the camp’s safety measures and preparedness, questioning how such a tragedy could occur.
In response to the disaster, the camp will implement new safety protocols, including installation of warning systems to alert campers and staff of potential dangers, prohibition of cabins in dangerous parts of flood zones and development of comprehensive emergency plans and training for staff.
