In a candid and emotional interview, Bishop T.D. Jakes has shared harrowing details about his recent health scare, in which he suffered a massive heart attack while preaching live on stage.
The incident occurred in November 2024, during a sermon at The Potter’s House, Jakes’s megachurch in Dallas, Texas. At the time, Jakes had been preaching for about an hour when he suddenly began to feel unwell. Despite his initial concerns, Jakes attributed his symptoms to fatigue and attempted to power through the remainder of the sermon.
However, it soon became clear that something was seriously amiss. Jakes has since revealed that he had suffered a severe heart attack, which had caused the right side of his heart to completely stop pumping blood due to a clot.
“I just kind of drifted off to sleep. I didn’t know what it was, but I almost died,” Jakes recounted in an interview on the Today show. “The doctor told me that if I had arrived five minutes later, I would have been dead on arrival.”
Jakes’s near-death experience was marked by a sense of serenity and peace, which he described as being enveloped in a “cloud-enveloped space.”
“It was a very peaceful moment,” Jakes reflected. “I felt like I was in a place where I had no pain, no sorrow, no trouble.”
The 67-year-old pastor’s remarkable recovery has been met with an outpouring of support and prayers from around the world. Jakes expressed his deep gratitude for the overwhelming response, stating that it was a “privilege” to have had a glimpse of what may lie beyond.
As Jakes continues on the road to recovery, he is already planning his return to the pulpit and has announced plans to attend upcoming church events and launch a new podcast.
Jakes’ experience serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of prioritizing one’s health and being aware of the risks of heart disease. His courage and resilience in the face of adversity have inspired countless individuals, and his testimony is a powerful reminder of the importance of faith, hope, and perseverance.
“I’m grateful for a second chance,” Jakes said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving, to continue preaching, and to continue inspiring others.”
As Bishop T.D. Jakes looks to the future, his message of hope and resilience is sure to continue inspiring countless individuals around the world.
